Pagan Witch

Differences between Pagan, Wiccan, and Witch?
I’ve heard many different people explain them in many different ways. I’m interested in your belief in what exactly a Wiccan, Witch and Pagan are. It seems that this termonology is often confused to the point where they are used as interchangeable words.
Also, what are the differences between Witch, Magician, Sorceror, etc?
In the sense of nature-based spiritual paths:
Wiccan is someone who practices a tradition of Wicca, which is based on writings of Gerald Gardner and his students/peers, which were published in 1954. Wicca has certain proscribed guidelines and ritual commonalities used to celebrate the turn of the seasons and the divine in everything. A Wiccan tradition tends to be based on a specific myth cycle, and can have a certain repetition in its celebratory rituals.
A Pagan is someone who practices a nature-based spiritual path, but may be more eclectic and experimental than someone practicing within the guidelines of a Wiccan tradition. My personal experience is that Wiccans may consider themselves Pagan, but not all Pagans consider themselves Wiccan. Also, many Pagans (such as myself) may have begun their spiritual path with training in a Wiccan tradition, and then began to explore with other myth cycles, and cultural influences, or even just followed a more intuitive path of exploration.
Witch is a tricky word these days. lol Again, Wiccans may consider themselves Witches, and so may Pagans, but not all Witches would necessarily be Wiccan, or Pagan. Simply, a Witch is someone who practices the arts of Witchcraft, which can be defined as working with natural/supernatural energies to manifest a specific intent. Some Witches are not involved in a seasonal celebratory spiritual path, as would be a Pagan or a Wiccan. Also, in Wiccan/Pagan circles, a Witch can be male or female.
Many times, these words are used interchangeably, but they really are not the same thing. People who don’t know the differences do tend to confuse them, but an individual practitioner would be able to tell you what they call themselves. For example, I call myself a Pagan, but I have been initiated as a Priestess into a Wiccan tradition, and also into a non-Wiccan tradition. I suppose you could also call me a witch, but I tend not to use that word because I tend to lay low and keep my beliefs and practices pretty much to myself.
(I didn’t want my son going to school and announcing to everyone that his mommy was a “witch” when we lived on the buckle of the Bible Belt. lol)
As far as magician and sorceror goes… There are some people who practice what they call High Magick, which I am not all that familiar with, but I believe it may be based on alchemical tradition. I believe they refer to themselves as Magicians, but I could be wrong. Of course, a stage illusionist entertainer may call himself a Magician, but he is doing magic (sleight of hand and illusion), rather than working with spiritual energies, which is “magick” (symbolized by the letter ‘k’ at the end of the word).
I haven’t met anyone who calls themselves a sorceror these days, but I am sure there may be some. I have mostly read about that in fiction stories. Oh, and Harry Potter stuff is all about Witchcraft and Wizardry, and although I am a huge fan of the HP material, I have never really given much thought about the distinction of “Wizard”. Perhaps that would make a good question. lol See my profile if you can answer that one!
